1937 Rehoboth School
Alright, here I am returning to Rehoboth School again, but when the DeKalb History Center shared this fantastic photograph of the school, I wanted to include the photo on Past Tense GA. This photograph of Rehoboth School, constructed of granite in 1937, was taken that same year. The new school was one of those built by the Works Progress Administration or WPA. The WPA was a government program set up during the Great Depression to provide jobs. One of their projects was rebuilding schools.

The photograph is part of the Sue Rainey Collection, 1937 DeKalb County's Progress, held in the archives of DeKalb History Center. It includes several DeKalb County Schools. Unfortunately, during this time of segregation when Black schools did not have adequate buildings or supplies, they are also not documented in the scrapbook.
Sue Rainey’s husband was the superintendent of DeKalb County schools in 1937, W. M. Rainey.
As indicated, Mrs. W. H. Hainie was principal of Rehoboth Elementary School in 1937.
For the progression of the school, whose history began in 1823 under a different name, please visit this previous Rehoboth blog post.
